SMP GALLERYにて、韓国在住の写真家ナム・ジョンヒョン氏の初個展を開催します。
被写体は広陵とした雪原、韓国の白磁、欧米の家具やバービードール。風景と静物、哀愁とユーモアが静かに交差する作品たちは、韓国の伝統的な手漉き紙 韓紙（ハンジ）の上で、沈黙する物たちが呼吸するかのような佇まいを見せます。

本展では、写真家 Jonghyun Nam が長年取り組んできた「静物写真」を中心に、韓国の伝統的な手漉き紙・韓紙（ハンジ）にプリントされた作品を紹介します。影をあえて排した独自の手法により、被写体は装飾性や演出を離れ、そのものが持つ存在感を静かに浮かび上がらせます。
作品に用いられる韓紙は、繊維の質感と奥行きを備えた素材であり、作家の制作姿勢と深く共鳴します。時間と手間を重ねて生み出される韓紙の特性は、被写体と向き合い続ける写真家の態度そのものとも言えるでしょう。風景は墨絵を思わせる静謐な佇まいを宿し、また被写体の家具や磁器のフォルムをグラフィカルに捉える写真家の視点は、スタイリッシュでモダンな世界観を創り出します。
静かに佇む物たちは、明確な物語を語ることなく、観る者それぞれの記憶や感覚に委ねられます。本展は、写真という表現を通して、「見ること」「向き合うこと」の意味を改めて問いかける機会となります。

Jonghyun Nam Photo Exhibition：The Gaze of a Korean Photographer
SMP GALLERY is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of photographer Jonghyun Nam, based in Korea.
His subjects range from vast snowfields to Korean white porcelain, Western furniture, and Barbie dolls. These works, where landscapes and still lifes, melancholy and humor quietly intersect, appear on traditional Korean handmade paper (Hanji), as if the silent objects breathe.
Each piece holds the photographer's earnest gaze.
This exhibition centers on photographer Jonghyun Nam's long-standing pursuit of “still life photography,” presenting works printed on traditional Korean handmade paper, hanji. Through a unique technique that deliberately excludes shadows, subjects shed ornamentation and staging, allowing their inherent presence to quietly emerge.
The hanji used for these works is a material rich in fiber texture and depth, deeply resonating with the artist's creative approach. The very nature of hanji—created through time and labor—mirrors the photographer's own attitude of sustained engagement with his subjects. The landscapes possess a serene presence reminiscent of ink wash paintings, while the photographer's perspective, which graphically captures the forms of furniture and ceramics, creates a stylish and modern worldview.
The quietly poised objects tell no explicit story, instead entrusting themselves to the memories and senses of each viewer. This exhibition offers an opportunity to reconsider the meaning of “seeing” and “engaging” through the medium of photography.
