晩夏から中秋へと移ろう季節、SMP GALLERYでは初となる山田 能資個展を開催します。
宮城県出身の山田能資さんは、ロンドン芸術大学セントラル・セント・マーチンズ 校グラフィックデザイン科を卒業。彫刻家イサム・ノグチも愛した伊達冠石（ダテカンムリイシ）を産出する大蔵山スタジオの5代目として、山を守り、石と対話する日々の中で、自身の内なる感性を研ぎ澄ましてきました。
本展では、伊達冠石や大蔵寂土などの素材を用い、宮城の自然、大蔵山に息づく大地の記憶や時間の痕跡をテーマに制作。「土と石」の循環する関係性を、絵画やオブジェを通して表現します。
[作家の言葉]
大蔵山の伊達冠石は、火山活動と地殻変動の中で生まれ、二千万年という遥かな時間を経て、海水の影響を受けながら、静かに土と還ってきました。
私は日々山を歩き、土を手で掬う。その土で顔料をつくり、絵の具に混ぜて、石の姿を描く。
それは失われた形をなぞることではなく、土となった記憶が、再び石の姿へと向かおうとする行為です。
「描くこと。」石と土のあわいに宿る、気配や時間の層を、少しでも感じていただけましたら幸いです。

Born in Miyagi, Yamada graduated from the Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins in London. He is the fifth-generation head of Okurayama Studio, a family-run stone quarry known for producing Datekanmuri Stone, once cherished by sculptor Isamu Noguchi. Caring for the mountain and engaging in a quiet dialogue with stone, he has refined his sensibility as an artist.
For his first exhibition with us, Yamada works with materials including Datekanmuri Stone and Okura Sabi Earth, exploring the memory of the earth and traces of time embedded in Miyagi and Okurayama. Through paintings and objects, he expresses the cyclical relationship between earth and stone.
[The Artist’s Words]
The Datekanmuri Stone of Okurayama was born through volcanic activity and tectonic movements. Over the vast span of twenty million years, shaped by the influence of seawater, it has quietly returned to the earth.
I walk the mountain every day and scoop up the soil with my hands. From that soil, I make pigments, mix them into paint, and paint the form of stone.
This is not an attempt to trace a form that has been lost. Rather, it is an act of allowing the memory that has become soil to move once again toward the form of stone.

I hope that, even for a moment, you may sense the traces of presence and the layers of time dwelling in the space between stone and soil.
